Don’t get yourself into a tizzy over rampant nosocomephobia disorders. You won’t find any scalpels or misery-inflicting, lab coaters cackling away behind their masks here. The illnesses we’re talking about affect (mainly) the protagonists’ inner child. We mustn’t minimize, though, the toll these skulking anima-prone ailments have on the body. To keep you from hitting rock bottom given the uplifting nature of this screening, we’ve thrown in a more sanity-friendly title or two whose content, fortunately for your sake, breaches the hell-th codes underlying the content of this lineup. Is it not vital that the characters in these bizarre narratives be prey to the merciless throes of agony in order to coddle our most visceral cravings? Duh. After the film, Court Métrange’s legendary hospital-ble self will be psyched up to help you down a big glass of Bactine® under its big top.

Michael lives with his dog Réno in the parisian suburbs. One morning, Michael is struck by a sudden deafness. This trauma will push him to plunge back into past experiments to his darkest entrenchments.

THE VANDAL

Set in a world not unlike mid-20th century America, The Vandal centers on Harold, whose tormented search for peace from traumatic loss results in an unexpectedly destructive awakening after the undergoes a lobotomy. When the procedure « turns his mind inside out » and his great love suddenly gone, Harold’s desperate search intensifies.

LILY’S MIRROR

Adam PINNEY, Linnea FRYE, 17’14, 2021, USA

Lily is out on a dinner date with her boyfriend Bart, expecting a proposal, when he unexpectedly chops off her hand. As Lily works on recovering, she begins to feel phantom pains where her hand used to be, so her doctor gives her a therapeutic mirror box to help with the discomfort.

Stephen lives a solitary life. A loner. A man who keeps himself to himself and is governed by routine and order. All things have their place and for good reason as a dark secret lurks beneath his feet, but not everything is as it seems.

Ne vous laissez pas envahir par des troubles de nosocomephobie galopante. Ici, point de bistouri et pas davantage de tortionnaire en blouse blanche ricanant sous son masque. Les maux dont nous parlons affectent (principalement) le psychisme des protagonistes. Il nous faut néanmoins concéder que ces pathologies insidieuses de l’âme peuvent avoir des conséquences physiologiques. Comme il convient d’égayer, on glisse aussi un ou deux titres qui ne répondent pas stricto « sangsue » (haha) aux exigences thématiques qui président à cette séance. L’important n’est-il pas que les personnages qui peuplent ces récits bizarres soient en proie aux pires tourments pour notre bon plaisir ? Mais si, bien sûr. À l’issue de la projection, ne manquez pas de venir boire un grand verre de Bétadine sous notre chapiteau hospitalier.

LILY’S MIRROR

Lily est en train de dîner avec son petit ami Bart, s'attendant à une demande en mariage, lorsqu'il lui coupe inopinément la main. Alors que Lily travaille à sa guérison, elle commence à ressentir des douleurs fantômes à l'endroit où se trouvait sa main, et son médecin lui donne une boîte à miroir thérapeutique pour la soulager.
