Academy Award Winner Denys Arcand makes his debut on Spamflix with Jesus of Montreal, the 1989 Cannes Film Festival Jury Prize winner. After critical and commercial success of The Decline of the American Empire, the director's next film focused on theater and the life of the artist while simultaneously doing an original take on the question: "What if Jesus lived in today's society?". Jesus of Montreal also went on to receive great critical acclaim, multiple awards and nominations, thus cementing Arcand as the most recognisable director from Quebec.
A group of actors putting on an interpretive Passion Play begin to experience a meshing of their characters and their private lives as the production takes form against the growing opposition of the Catholic church.
